rentzsch.com: tales from the red shed

About that new favicon

About this Website
Grayson Hansard wrote me a couple weeks ago:

I was looking for the (excellent) video you made on embedding Cocoa frameworks today and found myself blankly staring at my bookmarks list for 5 minutes or so. I knew I was looking for the one titled "rentzsch.com", but wasn't seeing it for some reason. Then it occurred to me: I was looking at the favicons next to the titles and was more accustomed to associating sites with them than with the title.

I took a few minutes and put together a "red shed" favicon (in png format) that is included in the email. I'm not asking you to use it, just please consider adding a favicon to your site so that people like me (that recognize favicons easier than titles in their bookmarks) don't wind up staring blankly at their screens wondering where that link went.

Whoa. Thanks, Grayson! I actually tried to make an favicon for rentzsch.com before I launched the site, but I couldn't craft anything that looked decent within the .ico format limits. I didn't know PNG was also supported. Support doesn't seem 100% widespread, however. I notice IE5/Mac and NetNewsWire 2.0 doesn't show them (although NNW2 does show it in the web browser tab -- just not in the subscription list).
