• Buy some jalopy for $50 to $75. It needs to run. Barely. Black smoke pouring out of the back is not necessarily bad.

• Drive it to California. Soon, the state will buy it off you for $1000 to $2000. That's one heck of a profit margin.

• Repeat.

It wouldn't quite work, as the vehicle has to be registered in California, and you couldn't register it until it passed the smog check, so you'd need to spend $$ to bring it into compliance and then hope that it slides far enough out of compliance to get paid.

Curses! Guess it's back to my original plan of commandeering the California legislative branch with robotic blankets. The only thing the could possibly stop me now would be some sort of elected cyborg from the future. Like that would ever happen.
