Like Safari, but Stuck on Windows?
It looks and works much like Safari. Probably no big surprise, since Dave Hyatt is involved in the project. Dave has like zero time right now, but he wants to get back into it. I have a Windows-using friend who was getting rather sick of IE's lack of popup window control, so that's when I suggested he give the browser a whirl. He's loves that feature, and is in heaven with its tabbed browsing support. Personally, I don't care for tabbed browsing, but I must confess Dennis's proposal is intriguing. While Phoenix does feel faster than IE for my friend, it's not dramatic. Probably part of the reason is Phoenix uses Gecko as its rendering engine (versus Safari's use of KTHML). One interesting aspect of Phoenix is that, unlike Safari, is cross-platform. That includes Mac OS X. Ugh, like we really need yet another browser. Sunday, February 09, 2003
