C4 L Travel Tips

C4

Some advice if you’re on Plan L or are just taking the L to get to C4:

  • The University Center, where C4 is being held, is located at 525 S State Street. It looks like this.

  • Ed Knittel wrote an awesome Google Maps+Chicago L mash-up. It hands-down beats the official and fan sites for groking the different color lines and where they end up.

  • If you’re on Plan L, about the only stations you need to concern yourself with are Jackson and Rosemont stations, both on the Blue Line. The Jackson station gets you to University Center, the Rosemont station gets you to your hotel.

We will be taking the Blue Line’s UIC-Halstead to Rosemont after Jak’s Tap on Friday night, but you don’t have to worry if you just follow me to the station that night (I’m staying in Rosemont too).

  • Coming from O’Hare: Take the Blue Line from O’Hare to Forest Park or 54/Cermak (you can’t screw this up since O’Hare is one end of the Blue Line).

If you’re staying in Rosemont (Plan L) you may want to stop at the Rosemont station (it’s the first station after O’Hare), walk to your hotel and drop off your luggage. When you get back on the L, get on the train to Forest Park or 54/Cermak.

You want to get off at the Jackson station. The University Center is about three blocks away from the Blue Line Jackson station.

It takes about an hour to get from the Rosemont station to the Jackson station.

  • Coming from Midway: Take the Orange Line to downtown (you can’t screw this up since Midway is one end of the Orange Line). Get off at the Library station. The University Center is about three blocks away from the Red Line Library station.

  • The L tickets will be given out at registration table at the University Center Friday night. If you’re taking the L in, then you’ll have to pony up the $2 or $4 ticket fare to get down there in the first place. That kind of sucks, but with folks coming from all over at different times, the registration is the first bottleneck to distribute tickets. So bring along a few bucks for the L if you’re going that way before you can make the registration table.
